Smokey's relies on solar panels arrayed in an adjacent field in Vernon, NJ, to provide 100% of its electric energy, powering lighting, refrigeration, cooling and the restaurant’s gourmet food smokers. Customers with electric cars or hybrids who are stopping at Smokey’s for a craft beer, a thin-crust pizza or restaurant meal to recharge their vehicle for free. Just drive on down to the lower level, where you'll find twin power points [ part of the ChargePoint Network ] to charge up to two vehicles simultaneously.

How the System Works Smokey’s acreage of solar voltaic panels, located in an adjacent field to our Vernon location, is capable of generating a tremendous amount of power, beyond what Smokey’s actually consumes. The Smokey’s system is 246 kilowatts in size, sufficient to provide most of its power consumption, having to rely upon a minimum amount of gas to power some of its stoves and ovens. But even the smokers used for our gourmet beef dishes and ribs, are powered by the solar array!
